Coaching

Coaching for transition and life balance

Often the first thing we think of when we think of coaching is how it works in sport. A coach is someone who pushes us, to get the best out of us. Or sometimes we think of it as a kind of training, someone teaching us how to do something better.

The kind of coaching I'm talking about is a little different. It is about :

As you discover what you want and choose what steps to take, I can support and encourage you, and hold you accountable for your own choices.

The focus is not on your problems, but on your vision; not on the past, but the future, and not on the difficulties but on creative possibilities. And when your vision feels vague or a long way off, we look for ways to draw that excitement down into your life here and now, even as you take steps towards the long term future.

If you are intrigued but can't quite make sense of this, contact me for a sample session so you can get a flavour of what it's like.

Career coaching

Career change and evolution are a common focus for coaching. This is not 'careers advice', but rather a structured approach to discovering what energises and excites you, what your skills are, and what possibilities exist out there for you to bring that into your working life. I ask the questions to help you clarify what it is you really want, and help you put together a plan of action for yourself.

Leadership coaching

Almost everything we do in life has the potential to require us to be a leader in some sense or another, at some times. Whether you own a company or manage a team, or are just looking in any way to develop your ability as a leader, coaching can help you to recognise and draw out your leadership qualities, see how they work and to build on them.

Life coaching

In any area of life, we may have goals we set for ourselves, or a vision we want to achieve (short or long term). Coaching can help you reach towards those goals through clarifying and enhancing your vision, and giving you support and encouragement.

How long does it take?

Coaching is normally specific to the particular goal or vision you bring, and is for a period of weeks or months. Short terms goals have a clear end-point, whereas longer term visions may lead you to choose ongoing support. Generally we would look at working together for perhaps 3 months, and then evaluate from there whether to continue.

Some clients choose to meet for an hour or more per month, others for less time or more often - all this is open to discussion, and we can work out together what is most useful for you.
